My Priorities if Elected, BUT NOT LIMITED TO – 3/25/26

If elected to the Select Board, I am committed to focusing on the following key priorities for our community:

1. Investing in a New Page School
There is no question that the Page School is outdated and in need of replacement. As a parent with a child currently attending kindergarten there, I have had the opportunity to see firsthand both the strengths of the school and the areas that require significant improvement.

West Newbury is part of an excellent school system, and I am committed to ensuring it remains strong for future generations. With my background in construction and engineering, I believe I can play a meaningful role in working with the state, school officials, and local boards to develop a modern, cost-effective solution for our residents. Our students, teachers, and staff deserve a facility that meets today’s standards.

2. Managing Responsible Growth
One of West Newbury’s greatest strengths is its rural character and small-town feel, while still being close to the ocean and major cities. Preserving that balance is essential.

I will work closely with the Planning Board to ensure that any development is thoughtful, responsible, and aligned with the character of our community. Unchecked growth can place significant strain on infrastructure, schools, and public services. Having grown up in a densely populated city, I have seen firsthand the consequences of overdevelopment. I am not opposed to growth—but it must be done carefully and sustainably.

3. Supporting Local Small Businesses
Our local businesses are the backbone of our community. Establishments like West Newbury Food Mart and West Newbury Pizza are not only convenient—they help define the character of our town.

Supporting small businesses keeps money within our community, strengthens our local economy, and contributes to the town’s tax base. I am committed to fostering an environment where existing businesses can thrive while also encouraging new small businesses to grow here.

4. Improving Pedestrian Safety and Infrastructure
West Newbury’s Department of Public Works does an excellent job maintaining our roads and infrastructure. However, there are areas—particularly along Main Street—where sidewalk coverage is incomplete.

With several schools located on Main Street, ensuring safe pedestrian access is critical. Gaps in sidewalks can force residents, including children, into the roadway. I would support a phased, cost-effective plan to expand sidewalk coverage and improve pedestrian safety.

Additionally, increasing the number of well-marked crosswalks—potentially with flashing signals—would further enhance safety while helping to manage traffic speeds. These are practical improvements that can make a meaningful difference for residents.

5. Addressing the Rocks Village Bridge Issue
The ongoing challenges with the Rocks Village Bridge impact many residents, particularly commuters. Frequent closures caused by oversized vehicles create significant disruption.

We need to explore more effective preventative measures, such as improved warning systems and coordination with traffic engineers and neighboring communities like Haverhill. While current signage is a step in the right direction, it is clear that additional solutions are needed to fully address the issue.

These are important issues facing our town, and while they are not new, they require renewed focus and commitment. If elected, I will work collaboratively with fellow Select Board members, town officials, and residents to move these priorities forward.

I am committed to transparency and open communication. As progress is made, I will ensure residents are informed and engaged throughout the process.

I respectfully ask for your consideration and your vote on May 4th.
